Actress Raai Laxmi has justified the drubbing her debut Hindi film Julie 2 has taken at the box-office by stating that fans thought the film would be of ‘soft-porn’ kind and were obviously disappointed.

Conceding that she never expected the film to meet the fate it met at the box-office, Raai Laxmi said that the Deepak Shivdasani-directed Julie 2 could have done better. Raai Laxmi had scorched the screen by appearing in glam-filled costumes and starring in intimate sequences besides locking lips with her co-stars in the film which was the biopic (albeit unofficial) of a leading Tamil actresses of the nineties whose name started with the alphabet ‘N’.

Produced at a whopping budget of Rs.30 crores, the film opened to very poor response at the box-office and collected only a paltry Rs.2.5 crores during its first week in theatres. The failure of the film also put paid to Raai Laxmi’s hopes of making it big in the Hindi film industry as a frontline heroine. Critics have blamed the script as the main reason for the film’s fate at the box-office.

“I feel that audiences would have thought the film would be a ‘soft-porn’ film going by the teasers and first-look/promotional posters. However, it was aesthetically shot with minimal glamour quotient, thus disappointing the youths and audiences who expected a ‘different’ version,” Raai Laxmi concluded.
