Vijay’s upcoming Atlee Kumar-directed Mersal is to release in more than 3,300 halls across the globe on Wednesday (18th October) on the occasion of Deepavli, the ‘Festival of Lights & Crackers’.
The producer, Sri Thenandal Films, is said to be taking a calculated risk by announcing the film’s release on Deepavali as planned earlier despite recent decision by theatre-owners not to release any new films till the State Govt. rolled back the entertainment tax imposed on them.
Vijay’s fans, meanwhile, are very happy and are awaiting the film’s release in thatres by creating a hash-tag ‘#MersalDiwali#’. In Tamil Nadu alone, the Vijay-Samantha-Kajal Aggarwal-Nithya Menen starrer is slated to release in more than 300 halls and multiplexes. Kerala would also be releasing the film in 325 halls in its soil.
The dubbed version of the film in Telugu is releasing with the title Adirinthi and has been allotted many halls equivalent to an original Telugu film. Meanwhile, the producers are keeping their fingers crossed hoping that the strike by theatre-owners in not taking up the release of new films would be called off by Deepavali.
