It has been officially announced by Lyca Productions, the producers of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film 2.0, that the film would be released in theatres only on 13th April next year during the Tamil New Year celebrations and not in January, as reported earlier.
Rajini’s 2.0, which had a lavish audio-launch in Dubai last Friday, has taken centre-stage in the minds of movie-goers and Rajini’s millions of fans. Bollywood’s Akshay Kumar has willingly portrayed the film’s antagonist opposite Rajini. Amy Jackson, who stars in her second Shankar-directed film after Ai, plays ‘Robot’ Rajini’s love-interest in the film, as per available information on the film’s script.
Made at a whopping cost of more than Rs.400 crores, the film brings together Shankar and Rajini for the third time after colossal hit films such as Sivaji: The Boss and Enthiran: The Robot. The film has been shot entirely in 3-D mode and in Shankar’s own words, it would provide an ‘out-of-the-world’ experience to movie-goers.
It was earlier informed that the film would be released in theatres worldwide on 26th January next year to coincide with the Republic Day celebrations. After shooting for more than two years, the film’s crew tested the patience of Rajini’s fans to a huge extent. As Akshay Kumar’s Hindi film Padman is to release during R-Day, the crew of 2.0 has announced that the film’s release in theatres has been postponed to April.
