Actress Sridevi says that she felt ‘shocked’ at film-maker S.S. Rajamouli’s reported statement to the press that she demanded a fortune to star in Baahubali.

It turned out that Rajamouli first approached Sridevi and then Lakshmi Manchu before finally zeroing in on Ramya Krishnan to play ‘Rajamata Sivakami’ in the Baahubali prequel and sequel. As reported earlier, Baahubali 2 went on to break many box-office records for an Indian film in India and elsewhere.

Speaking to a Telugu television channel, the former queen of Kollywood and Bollywood appeared to be disturbed at the various comments floating in the press about her refusal to star in Baahubali. “My absence didn’t matter and both the prequel and sequel had turned out to be huge hits; yet, people keep talking about why I didn’t star in the film. I want to put a permanent full-stop to all such queries.

“Neither did I ask Rs.10 crores to star in the film nor did I demand accommodation at a top hotel and air-tickets for many of my friends/relatives. I’ve been in the industry for 50 years now; had I remained adamant, I wouldn’t have come this far and starred in more than 300 films. It is indeed agonizing to come across such news items about me. I’m not sure whether Rajamouli said wrongly about me to the producer.

“I have great regards for him as a film-maker and wanted to star in his film after watching Eegaa (Naan Ee). I’m often told he is a decent individual who doesn’t hurt others. However, I’m not amused by news about me floating in the press which say Rajamouli ‘apprised’ the producer about my demands; actually, I never made such demands as I’m well aware of a producer’s responsibility,” Sridevi concluded.
